Atlanta United extends Ronaldo Cisneros' loan through the end of the 2022 season.

What the Mexican forward's stay could mean for the Five Stripes moving forward.

Atlanta United announced Tuesday that it has extended the loan of forward Ronaldo Cisneros through the end of the season. Cisneros is on a loan from Liga MX side Chivas Guadalajara that was set to expire by the end of the month until Atlanta opted to use the extension option.

Cisneros has been a very important player in Gonzalo Pineda's team, playing 769 minutes across 10 total appearances and scoring four goals. He was initially brought to stand in as the starting striker while Josef Martinez was recovering from knee surgery earlier this season, but he has recently been playing at left wing to cover for Thiago Almada as he serves his 3-match suspension.

With this loan extension, Cisneros remains available for selection in the team's upcoming matches, and Atlanta still has an option to bring Cisneros on a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

While Cisneros is needed at left wing, he does not look particularly effective in the position and was practically invisible in the game against Toronto. When Thiago Almada returns after the Red Bulls game, we could see the team try a formation involving a striker pairing of Martinez and Cisneros (maybe a 4-4-2 or maybe even a 3-5-2 after the transfer window opens and Juan Jose Purata is available for selection).
